I first \”heard\” John Cage\’s song 4\’33\” in an arts class I took. If you\’ve never heard of it, the performer goes to a piano, opens the lid, and does absolutely nothing for 4 minutes and 33 seconds. Then he closes the lid and leaves. That\’s it, that\’s the entire song. Apparently the song was supposed to be the noises the audience makes and the sounds of the surrounding environment. I thought John Cage was a pretty clever guy. The real story behind 4\’33\” is much deeper though, as shown in The Sounds of Silence.
