• Neuromancer casting

Apple TV’s Neuromancer series has its Case – Callum Turner from Masters of the Air (also on Apple TV), who played Major “Bucky” Egan. I’ve only seen him in Masters of the Air and I thought he did a fine job. Case is a totally different character than a WW2 pilot so we’ll see. The real challenge will be casting Molly. Dina Meyer played a version of Molly in 1995’s Johnny Mnemonic (the character was renamed as Jane), and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity from The Matrix was obviously inspired by Molly. Anyway, someone actually being cast in a role means the series is solidifying and becoming more real. Neuromancer has been in development limbo for so long that I take any news with a grain of salt.

  • Fallout Production Design

Great interview with the production designer and costume designer on Fallout. I’m taking my time and savoring the show rather than binge-watching it, so I’m only up to episode 2. So far I love it, the production design is so detailed and highly faithful to the games. I put hundreds of hours into Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 so it’s awesome when I immediately recognize a prop or a little design detail.

  • The Longest Continuous Street in the US

Whenever I’m visiting another city and I see a street that has the same name as one in my city, I like to imagine that it’s actually the same street and it goes crosses deserts, forests, plains, mountains, etc. all the way back to my town. Anyway, the real longest street in the US is Colfax Avenue in Denver. It’s just under 50 miles long and runs east-west through metropolitan Denver.

  • 111 Video Game Details in Fallout

I haven’t actually read this article as I’ve only watched the first episode and want to avoid spoilers, but here are 111 details from the Fallout games in the TV show. They did a fantastic job on production design, little things like stimpacks, jet inhalers, and Nuka Cola machines look just like they do in the games.

  • Norm MacDonald on OJ

Regarding recent news of the death of OJ Simpson, here’s 11 minutes of Norm MacDonald shitting on OJ.

  • Fallout comes out today

Amazon’s Fallout show comes out today and the review embargo has lifted. Looks like it’s getting great reviews, some saying it’s the second best video game adaptation after The Last of Us. This is great news cause video games adaptations don’t really have a good track record. It sounds like Amazon’s really nailed the look and the tone of the series, bringing the right mix of sci-fi, action, and wry humor and also being faithful to the games.

  • Skinny Puppy’s Worlock remastered in HD

Someone tracked down modern HD versions of all the video clips from Skinny Puppy’s Worlock video from 1989 and edited them into a new HD version of the classic music video. I admire the amount of work that went into this.

  • NASA Space Colony Concept Art from the 70s

Cool collection of space colony concept art from a study that NASA/Ames and Stanford University conducted in 1977. A PDF of the study is available here. I love these optimistic looks at living in outer space. These kinds of massive, toroid-shaped space stations feature prominently in a lot of sci-fi. I like the juxtaposition of the familiar earth-like houses and plazas under the giant windows and artificial sky of the inner ring.

  • 99 Cent by Andreas Gursky

The recent news of the closing of all 99 Cent stores reminds me of this photo by Andreas Gursky. I saw it years ago, I forgot in which museum, and it’s really impressive cause it’s a couple feet wide. Back in 2006 it sold for $2.2 million.

  • Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in movies and shows

Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in movies and shows. Of course the iconic Guggenheim has been in several movies, and the Ennis House was Deckard’s apartment in Blade Runner. I’ve been to the Marin County Civic Center and it’s really cool to see it in person. It’s open to the public so you can wander around and take pictures.
