• Holy hooligans! Phony \’Joker\’ arrested in Michigan

Police in Michigan have arrested a man who they say tried to steal posters and other items related to the new Batman movie from a cinema lobby while dressed up as the Joker.

It\’d be so cool if this created a string of copycat criminals, and then we\’d hear about women wearing sequined jumpsuits and stealing Mamma Mia! posters.

  • Lego models of the 2008 Olympics. The Aquatics center and the Bird\’s Nest are especially cool.

  • Welder makes some really badass-looking watches. I especially like this chronograph, it\’s very futuristic. They\’re a massive 48mm across, that\’s like strapping a tea saucer to your wrist. Whereas the Bell & Ross watches I\’ve mentioned before look like they came from the cockpit of a fighter jet, the Welder watches look like they were ripped from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. They\’re designed by Italo Fontana, who also designed the equally massive U-Boat watches.

  • Oh man, I know what I\’m gonna do at work on Monday: build this papercraft Batmobile. And if, for some reason, you prefer the Adam West-era Batmobile, they have that too.

  • A comparison of the Watchmen movie trailer to the comic. Rorschach looks pretty cool, and everything looks spot on.

  • Escape Tools – a gallery of tools and weapons made in prison. There\’s some really clever stuff here, like the freaking shotgun made from bedposts and powered by AA batteries. Imagine what those guys could make if they were free!

  • Oobject compares Shanghai and Beijing architecture. I can\’t decide which one I like better, probably Beijing cause those buildings look more innovative.

  • EveryBlock Chicago has a map and list of all the shooting locations of The Dark Knight in Chicago. Chicagoist has pictures of a couple of the places too. I was actually in Chicago 2 weeks ago on vacation, it was a lot of fun. I saw a couple of those places without knowing it. Had dinner at that Twin Anchors restaurant too, awesome ribs.

  • The Watchmen trailer is available online. Looks like it\’s faithful to the comic.

  • The New York Times has a good article about the architecture of all the new buildings going up at an incredible pace in Beijing. I visited there 5 years ago and there were construction cranes and huge skyscrapers going up all over. I bet I wouldn\’t even recognize anymore.
