The New York Times has a good article about creating a new font for highway signs. Sounds like a really complex process, as, for example, changing the inside hollow space of a \”P\” can make it seem brighter at night.

The Kithaus K3 is a prefabricated office/studio that can be placed anywhere cause it doesn\’t require a foundation. It has insulated, full height windows and doors, finished interior, and data and electrical plugs. I like the interior, it\’s very minimalist, plus it looks awesome when the shutters are down. It\’d be so cool to have one of these as an office. Although it\’s not a subtle message that you\’re fired if you come to work one day and your office is gone.

Wired has an article about the reacTable, a glowing table that you arrange blocks on to make sounds. The demo video looks so damn cool. Differently-shaped blocks change the sound in different ways, so you place the blocks and rotate them to get the sound you want.

More info about that Filipino prison where the inmates performed Thriller. It sounds pretty cool, actually, as now the prisoners have something to do and take pride in. They also have routines for Village People, Pink Floyd, and other songs.

So at work I sit near the windows, and a couple months ago I noticed an unusually high number of fire trucks/ambulances going by each day. I started keeping a spreadsheet(average is 2, highest is 9 in 1 day). Turns out the 9th busiest fire station in LA is only a few blocks away. 41 freaking responses each day! That\’s almost 2 per hour! How the hell do they have time to do anything like eat or sleep?

Here\’s a neat tutorial on how to make a picture with a Droste Effect, that thing where there\’s a picture inside a picture inside a picture…The results are trippy.

Israeli woman\’s army impersonation took her to war
Police said the 24-year-old woman had visited army bases throughout the country dressed in uniform and carrying a replica M-16 assault rifle that had been bought from a store.
I bet she made \”bang bang bang\” noises when she pretended to fire her fake rifle.

This giant Lego man is like the Dutch version of Godzilla terrorizing Japan.
