The Gigapixl Project is a massive undertaking to capure portraits of America with a custom-built, ultra-high resolution camera. The 1000 megapixel images capture incredible details. In one of the images of Yosemite, a 0.05% crop shows 2 climbers on the face of Half Dome, who are invisible in the original image. This Wired article has more cool info about the camera, including this bit:
The lens is mounted with micrometer screws and dials that can be adjusted to within one thousandth of an inch. To focus the lens accurately, Flint measures the distance to every major object in the field of view with a laser range finder. He then plugs the distances into a set of algorithms that tell him how to adjust the screws.

I never knew people restored skateboards. Some of the artwork is pretty good though, and worth saving.

Apparently night photos of the Eiffel Tower are now copyrighted.
…the company charged with maintaining the tower, adorned it with a distinctive lighting display, copyrighted the design, and in one feel swoop, reclaimed the nighttime image and likeness of the most popular monument on earth. In short: they changed the actual likeness of the tower, and then copyrighted that.
Just another example of The Man keeping us down.
