Badass. Congress overturned the court ruling yesterday against the Do Not Call list. The House voted 412 to 8, the Senate voted 95 to 0, and they did it in less than a day. That\’s awesome.

Fucking hell. Just when you thought the government did something right for once: U.S. Court Blocks Anti-Telemarketing List
A federal court in Oklahoma has blocked the national \”do not call\” list that would allow consumers to stop most unwanted telephone sales calls, one week before it was due to take effect.
What the hell is with Oklahoma? This judge just pissed off 50 million people. I hope he\’s ready to receive a whole lot of complaints.
The telemarketing companies say they\’d lose a lot of money cause of the list. No they wouldn\’t. The people who signed up for the list are people who don\’t want to receive phone calls and never would have bought anything. The telemarketing companies won\’t lose 50 million potential sales because of the list. They never would have sold anything to those people in the first place.

Neal Stephenson\’s new book Quicksilver comes out tomorrow and Slashdot already has a review. It has no sci-fi or computers in it but it still sounds pretty cool.

Awesome multi-screen LCD displays. I have no idea what I\’d use it for, but I want one.

Cool article about robotic garages, fully-automated parking structures. You drive your car onto a pallet and the computer does the rest, whisking your car away and moving it into an empty stop. Because humans don\’t go inside the garages, they don\’t need exhaust ventilation systems, elevators, stairs, or fire doors. There\’s also no ramps and the aisles are probably narrower too. As a result, automated garages can park far more cars into a compact space. There\’s only 2 in the US right now, in Hoboken, N.J. and Washington D.C. They should make them with glass walls: I wanna see these things in action.

The Worst Jobs In Science. All your favorites are here, including fart-smeller, turd-analyzer, and farm animal diddler. Some others are just plain boring, like fish counter and metric system advocate.

Neat cross-section of the New York Underground. They left out the C.H.U.D.s though.
