• Tell No Tales is an unofficial guide to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It has a complete history of the attraction along with vintage photos and other stuff. Man, now I wanna go on the ride again.

  • O.C. reservist in Iraq fired

The wife of a Marine reservist on duty in Iraq said Monday that his stateside employer wrongly fired him from his six-figure job, and she demanded the company reinstate him with pay – at least until he returns home.

A lawyer representing Shari Moffitt of Irvine sent a letter to Hyundai Motor America executives in Fountain Valley asking why they would fire Sgt. Clifford Moffitt, 35, while he was overseas serving his country..

Company officials released a statement saying an investigation found \”numerous instances of extreme sexual harassment involving multiple employee victims.\”

I don\’t think I\’ve ever mentioned this on my blog but I work at Hyundai. This guy\’s a national manager in the credit department (HMFC). His wife works here too and she actually sits right in front of his office. So I guess he was harassing women while his wife was there (kinky). He hired a lot of employees too, which probably explains why all the cute girls are in HMFC.

Word around the office is that his wife\’s taking advantage of his military status to sue Hyundai. Cause if they fire him it\’d be \”unpatriotic\” and \”unAmerican\”, right? Hyundai has a zero tolerance policy, so if someone\’s found guilty of sexual harassment it results in immediate termination. I guess it sort of conflicts with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act.

Anyway, that\’s a little excitement around the office for a boring Tuesday. The LA Times also has an article about this (registration required).

  • British Airways and Air France announced they would cease Concorde flights. Revenue is down because fewer passengers want premium air travel now. Too bad, the Concorde was so much more elegant and upscale than any other airplane. All that\’s left now is cramped airplanes with shitty service.

  • The best geek site I\’ve seen in a while: a massive chart comparing space ship sizes. Where are the Star Destroyers though?

  • Woohoo! Looks like Firefly is coming to DVD. I\’ll include all the episodes (including the unaired ones) in widescreen format. Now I don\’t have to waste time trying to find episodes online.

  • According to this Wired article Hollywood is controlled by online message boards. Studio execs and agents pay a monthly fee to use the boards to discuss new projects and scripts and stuff.

I\’ve been tipped to the network of semisecret cyberhallways, called tracking boards, that are open only to the most elite power players in the industry. In simplest terms, these boards are sophisticated chat rooms and BBSes where high-level executives at various studios trade information about potential projects.

They may seem innocuous at first glance, but the boards are where a writer meets his fate. Before a script goes out, it either gets deep-sixed or hyped up. Often, it\’s said, execs will go online and leak privileged information or even lie about projects in order to drive prices up – or down. If the rumors are true, it means that the fix is in: major collusions between studios, arbitrary blackballing, a system that mocks any standard of fair play. It\’s not just scripts – books, directors, even actors are tracked.

  • Rob Zombie\’s movie House of 1000 Corpses is finally coming to theaters this Friday. Better be good.

  • The latest Animatrix episode Detective Story is now available for download. The episodes have been pretty good so far, they really flesh out the Matrix universe and fill-in the back story. I can\’t wait till the entire DVD is released on June 3rd (and it\’s little more than a month till the Matrix Reloaded!)

  • Due to a contract dispute Target and Dell aren\’t selling iPods anymore. Target has them on clearance so you can get a 10GB for $339.99 (15% off).
