• 40 percent of all email is now spam. Bleh. I wonder if spammers themselves also get spam, and if it pisses them off too.

  • House Restaurants Changes Name of \’French Fries\’ and \’French Toast\’. Two Republicans spearheaded the move to change the names to \’Freedom Fries\’ and \’Freedom Toast\’ on the restaurant menus. Oohhhhh, burn! What are these guys, in 7th grade? \”We don\’t like you, so we\’re gonna call them Freedom Fries now.\” Fuck off with your petty squabbles. They\’re even holding a press conference to make the change official.

  • File-sharing networks are getting filled with fake songs which turn out to be ads for the CD.

Unlike much of the activities that take place on P2P sites, the spoofing of files is perfectly legal, RIAA spokesperson Jonathan Lamy said. \”It\’s happening and it\’s just one example of a lawful and appropriate self-help measure available to the labels,\” he said.

Who knew the RIAA was so sneaky?

  • Fascinating New York Times article about face transplants.

It is possible to remove not just skin and subcutaneous fat and muscle but, in the instance of those recipients who have lost some of their skeletal structure, part of the donor\’s bone and cartilage as well.

With the recipient\’s scar tissue removed and the essential arteries and veins exposed, surgeons would attach them to the corresponding arteries and veins in the harvested face in order to supply both nourishment and drainage.

    Sounds really gruesome.

  • Fox\’s excellent sci-fi show Firefly was cancelled last year but scripts for un-aired episodes were auctioned off on eBay. The buyer is typing up the episodes and one titled Heart of Gold was posted on Usenet. Badass. I\’m not clear on whether these are un-aired episodes or un-filmed episodes. If they\’re un-aired, that means they were filmed but never shown, so maybe, hopefully, they\’ll make their way onto file-sharing networks somehow…

  • $100 million worth of jewels were stolen in Belgium\’s biggest diamond heist on February 16. 123 out of 160 vaults were looted at the Diamond Center in Antwerp. Police believe the suspects spent 2 years planning the robbery, copying keys, and finding ways around security. No alarms were tripped, security guards saw nothing and the vault door wasn\’t forced. Maybe I\’ve seen too many movies, but I hope the thieves get away with it. That\’d be so cool.
