• Awwww, no more SatireWire

Citing creative differences, SatireWire\’s founder and sole employee, Andrew Marlatt, announced that as of today, the site will no longer be updated.

Unlike everything else on the site, this is not a joke. Not even the \”creative differences\” part.

  • Man Accused in Wedgie Case

A man accused of trying to kill a friend who gave him a \”wedgie\” will stand trial on an attempted murder charge, a judge ruled.

Daniel Strouss, 19, was attending a Phish concert last year when Eric Kassoway sneaked up behind him and yanked up his underwear, according to testimony at a hearing Thursday.

Strouss, of Richboro, held a grudge for months before shooting Kassoway on June 12, authorities said.

Geez, man, it was only a wedgie, lighten up. Well, unless it was an atomic wedgie, in which case it\’s ok.

  • The International Society for Paranormal Research is looking for 2 clairvoyant investigators to join their team. Applicants must take a test which involves writing an analysis of 20 pictures of creepy houses, staircases, and a haunted teddy bear. \”Your analysis should be as detailed as possible, including information such as \’Is this location haunted?\’, \’Who haunts\’ (adults, children, gender, ages, etc.), pertinent dates, circumstances, paranormal activities, type of property, geographical location of the study subject, etc.\” I\’d be a bad paranormal investigator cause I didn\’t get any psychic vibes from the pictures.

  • This site has a huge collection of Soviet Propaganda posters for sale. They\’re the real thing, not reprints, so they\’re kinda pricy. I\’ve always thought this kind of art was cool (in a commie sort of way).

  • The Lapvantage Dome is a neat little iMac-like laptop stand. You can even swivel and adjust it like an iMac.

  • A man dumped paint on a receptionist at a direct marketing company cause they wouldn\’t stop sending junk mail. Let me be the first to say bravo! Bravo! This guy replaces the other guy as my new hero.

  • The MuVo looks like a neat little mp3 player. It\’s essentially one of those USB stick harddrives, but with buttons on top to control the songs. It connects to a little shell with a AAA battery for 10 hours of power. It\’s a bare-bones mp3 player, however, no display or anything fancy.

  • Two good reads for a slow Wednesday afternoon:

Hacking Las Vegas, about a group of genius MIT students who turned card counting into a science. With the aid of computers and hundreds of hours of practice they worked out the math of card counting, ending up with an average profit of 10%-20%. They worked in teams to avoid getting caught and won millions from casinos.

Have You Ever Tried to Sell a Diamond?, about the De Beers diamond cartel. Starting in the 1930s, De Beers\’ advertising agency N.W. Ayer created a campaign to turn virtually worthless diamonds into desirable objects. They used movies and advertising to associate diamonds with romance so people would desire them. Then, to keep the value of diamonds inflated, they endowed diamonds with sentimental value so people wouldn\’t resell them.
