  • These slides about giving a good presentation would\’ve come in handy when I was in college. Lots of good tips, like keep the introduction short and put pictures on the slides. My personal favorite slide is this one.

  • After reading this article about Kinder Surprise Eggs, I had to find out for myself what the fuss was about. Kinder eggs are chocolate eggs with little build-it-yourself toys inside. They\’re sold everywhere in the world except the U.S. cause the toys are considered a choking hazard. Anyway, once we got to Vancouver we found a market and got some Kinder eggs. The chocolate egg was pretty good, but I was disappointed by the surprise inside. I got a crappy jigsaw puzzle of a purple hippopotamus. Hmph. Purple hippo. But now I wanna get more eggs to try to get cooler toys. I guess that\’s why they\’re so popular. They bait you with crappy surprises so you buy more to try to get the cool toys.

  • A fake Harry Potter book called \”Harry Potter And Leopard Walk Up To Dragon\” is on sale in China. Harry gets transformed into a dwarf and loses his powers. Weird.

  • I\’m back. Canada was pretty fun, got to see the Rockies from a tour bus. It was really hectic though, everyday we were on the bus at 6:00 AM and didn\’t get to the hotel till at least 9:00 PM. But we got to see a lot of stuff; a couple of lakes, the Columbia Icefield, Banff, and several small towns. At some places it was actually snowing. In July!

  • Alright, I\’m gonna be in Canada for the rest of the week. First we\’re going to Vancouver, then the Rockies. So no updates till I get back on Saturday.

  • Scientists at the Getty Conservation Institute determined that this is the very first photograph. It was created in 1826 by Joseph Nicephore Niepce who used a process called heliography. He covered a pewter plate with a photo-sensitive tar called bitumen, then exposed it for 8 hours. The unexposed bitumen was dissolved with lavender oil, and the result was a negative of the French countryside and the world\’s first photograph.

  • Wolfenstein 5K is a neat little entry for the 5K contest. It\’s Wolfenstein written in 5K of JavaScript code. Geez, I didn\’t even know you could do this with JavaScript.

  • So if, like me, you\’re a little confused by the Enron/WorldCom corporate fraud and how these companies scammed billions of dollars, this New York Times article explains it in terms of an ice cream parlor.
