• I stopped visiting my favorite film site, 24 Frames Per Second, cause they stopped updating, but they\’re finally back as a quarterly journal. Right now they have a review of 2001, several reviews of movies that came out a while ago (hey, it\’s better than nothing), and articles about Peter Jackson and Wes Anderson. They write really thoughtful, insightful movie reviews, and I\’m glad they\’re finally back.

  • Simpsons quote of the day: \”If I wanted smoke blown up my ass I\’d be at home with a pack of cigarettes and a short length of hose.\”

  • So the Jesus With You Always site is making the blog rounds. The drawings show Jesus with people of various professions, like insurance salesman, bank teller, etc. Pretty good artwork actually. But these captioned drawings are the best.

  • Within a few decades we could be taking an elevator into space, according to this article. Using a super-strong carbon-nanotube composite, one end of the cable would be anchored to the surface of our planet. The cable would rise into space in a geosynchronous orbit, staying stationary over a position on Earth. Gravity on one end and centripetal acceleration on the other keeps the cable taut. Then the elevator just climbs up the cable with its payload of spy satellites and whatever. No word on what kind of music they\’ll play in the elevator though.

  • Wow, each Amazon auction for the 3 Segways topped $100,000. I guess it\’s really important for some people to be the first to own it (pun intended). But at least the proceeds go to charity.

  • Roger Ebert writes about music piracy and mp3s.

Why do people grab music off the Net and download it to CDs, iPods, and other storage devices? Because they like it. They like it a lot. They like it enough to go to the trouble of obtaining it despite the various roadblocks. They are fans. Would they rather have a mint CD from Virgin or Tower, with the original cover art? Of course. Will they eventually be paying customers for the music they are currently sampling? In most cases, yes.

  • Stupid channel 11. Their Simpsons reruns are all screwed up. They\’re showing episodes that aired just 2 weeks ago. When\’re these ass clowns at the station gonna get their act together?

  • DVD File has news about the inevitable Lord of the Rings DVD releases. 4 different versions, including an R rated extended cut of the film (extended violence! XXX Hobbit on Elf action! (just kidding)). I can\’t wait.

  • I\’m watching the 11:00 AM news, and right at the beginning they had 2 \”Breaking News\” stories: 1.) a suicide bombing in Israel, and 2.) Dudley Moore died. For a brief moment I thought they\’d start with the Dudley Moore story. But no, TV\’s not that bad. Yet.

  • Remember that guy in Florida with the \’ATHEIST\’ license plate? The state decided he can keep it after all. Nice to see the DMV isn\’t bowing down to the religious nuts.
