• More info about the Nikon D1X, the 5.3 megapixel followup to the flagship D1.

  • Damnit, I was listening to the now playing song and I was getting into the groove and suddenly my computer spontaneously rebooted itself. Totally ruined the moment.

  • Windows XP has a new security system that won\’t allow unauthenticated media files to be played. Apparently Windows adds noise to all media files, and only if the file passes the security check is the noised removed. You know someone\’s going to write a crack, but even still, that\’s just another reason to skip Windows XP.

  • More toy news: Figures from Seven Samurai and Reservoir Dogs. The Seven Samurai toys look just like the actors.

  • This is just cool: there\’s a new line of Spinal Tap toys. Nigel comes with an amp knob that goes to 11 and Derek comes with a foil wrapped zucchini.

McFarlane toys has some very impressive new figures for 2001, especially the Metal Gear Solid 2 and H.R. Giger figures. There\’s also more pics of the Clive Barker toys I mentioned last week.

  • Skip to the 4th paragraph in this article and you\’ll see this little gem: an announcement of the special edition DVD of Orgazmo! Woohoo! I\’ve been waiting for this ever since I saw the movie. Orgazmo\’s probably the funniest stupid movie I\’ve ever seen. It\’s so bad I can\’t help but like it.

  • And in more digital photography news, Canon has 3 new cameras, the S300, and PowerShot A10 and A20. The S300 is about the same as the S100, but with a 3x optical zoom. The A10 and A20 seem to be \”affordable\” cameras, at 1.3 and 2.1 megapixels, respectively. Also from Canon is a portable printer that connects directly to these new cameras and prints little credit card-sized pictures. I\’m starting to wonder whether I should\’ve waited a few months before I got my PowerShot S10…

  • Also at DPReview is Silicon Film\’s EFS-1, which turns a traditional 35 mm film camera into a digital camera. So if you\’ve already spent a fortune on a SLR system, you won\’t have to spend another fortune on a digital system. The downside, though, is it only works with \”select 35 mm SLR cameras.\”

  • DPReview, uh, hands-on previewed a new 6 megapixel digital camera from Pentax. It looks like a badass, all angles and curves. Mmmmm…6 megapixels.

  • Hopefully, if the Wheelman becomes popular it won\’t be as annoying as those Razor scooters. I don\’t know what kind of tricks you could do with it though, as it looks kinda heavy. And they\’re expensive too, $1200 US for the cheapest model. For that much money I\’d be afraid to do any tricks that might fuck it up.
